Zoë Kravitz Nails All-Black—and Sheer!—Dressing

Last night, a special preview of Broadway’s upcoming Cabaret revival was held in New York City. The Kander & Ebb classic, starring Eddie Redmayne and Gayle Rankin, will open on Broadway come April 21, after a successful run in London. Hosted at the Kit Kat Club, the preview saw stars like Zoë Kravitz and Ashley Graham come out for the occasion—and ever the fashion plate, Kravitz made sure to bring an elegant look for the affair.

Styled by Andrew Mukamal, Kravitz nailed all-black (and sheer!) dressing in a look by Saint Laurent and jewels by Jessica McCormack. The ensemble included a tailored overcoat and sheer-bodice mini dress. “This look was one of our favorites from Anthony [Vaccarello’]s mind blowing transparency collection for Saint Laurent,” Mukamal tells Vogue. “We couldn’t wait to find the right moment to wear it. I always love when ordinary items are reinterpreted and transformed into new ideas; This look is made almost entirely of hosiery—a simple pair of tights transformed into a layered and daring look.”

It’s not the first time Kravitz has pulled off sheer dressing. Remember her 2021 Met Gala look, when the star wore a chainmail Saint Laurent dress with an exposed thong? Mukamal says his favorite part of dressing Kravitz is her willingness to take risks and experiment. “Zoë’s style is always evolving,” he says. “She always loves to push the envelope in her own subtle way. We love playing with transparency, cut-outs, and skin. This look felt like a cool new iteration of all of that for us.”

There was even a dash of method dressing at play, with a subtle nod to Cabaret. “Hosiery immediately comes to mind when I think of Broadway and theater, which Zoë and I both love,” says Mukamal. “For the look to be almost completely made of hosiery felt perfectly on theme for the night.” We agree.
