Troye Sivan Shares His Go-To Products, From $5 Lip Balm to His Signature Scent

Troye Sivan is busier than your usual 28-year-old. On top of being a pop star with a rabid fan base and an upcoming tour with Charli XCX, the Australian heartthrob is also deeply involved in running Tsu Lange Yor, the lifestyle brand he launched last summer alongside his brother. As part of our Your Fave’s Fave series, we caught up with Sivan at TLY’s first-ever American activation—a three-day pop-up in New York City that wraps up Sunday, May 5—to find out how he prepares for a night out, what’s going on with that bottomless bowl, and yes, what he smells like.

His signature scent

“My signature scent is a layer of a bunch of things, but I ultimately wear our signature scent a lot, which is TLY 5755,” Sivan says. “It’s our most complex and maybe interesting scent. I think it’s one [that’s] a little bit more esoteric. If you know, you know. If you’re into it, you’re into it. And if you’re not, you’re not.” (We can confirm: The genderless fragrance starts subtle but blooms into something spicy and alluring once it hits skin.) “It feels very Australian to me,” he continues. “I find it to be very mysterious.”

His skin-care grails

Sivan credits his mom for a naturally acne-free complexion, so he keeps his routine “as simple as possible” to avoid overcomplicating things. “[I use] fragrance-free CeraVe face wash, maybe some sort of moisturizer,” he says, mentioning that he needs to find a pharmacy to pick some up.

“I swear by this face oil from a company called Conserving Beauty. It’s so good for your skin, but also gives you this dewy shine that’s somehow not too shiny, where you look sweaty,” the pop star says. “Once I put that on in the morning, I feel very awake and ready to take on the day. You get that kind of fresh-faced look.” His hair routine, meanwhile, is less specific, although it takes longer than his skin care: a rotating cast of curl creams, hair oils, and hydrating products keep his bleach-blonde hair healthy.

His night-out essentials

While any night out with the musician behind “Rush” is probably a whirlwind, Sivan keeps his going-out bag tightly edited. “My essentials are, like, gum and lip balm,” he says. “I think going basic with it is actually really, really good. Aquaphor, for me, is just, like, magic.”

Understandably for someone with a fragrance brand, scent is also a big part of going out. “You know that thing—maybe this is just me—when you’re with someone, and let’s say you kiss their face, and you get that thing where you want to, you know…” (At this point, Sivan scrunches his hands.) To induce that reaction, he chooses fragrances, shampoo, conditioner, moisturizer, body soap, and even laundry detergent deliberately.

“I actually go for an unscented antiperspirant deodorant because I want to be able to layer,” he says. “I’m often wearing fragrances that we are developing to try out, and give people hugs and hopefully get, ‘Oh, you smell good. What are you wearing?’”

What he keeps in the bottomless bowl

“I think it really encapsulates our brand. It’s sort of tongue-in-cheek,” the singer says of that viral bottomless bowl, which comes in two sizes. “But at the same time, it’s no joke because it’s, in my opinion, absolutely gorgeous and also totally functional.” The larger size is great for produce like heirloom tomatoes and limes (à la Dakota Johnson), he says.
