Another Met Gala has come and gone, leaving lots of glitter, gowns, glamour, and one question in its wake: Who nailed the Met Gala theme this year?
The Met Gala 2024 red carpet was as star-studded and over-the-top as ever, with fashion staples like Zendaya, Bad Bunny, and Gigi Hadid walking the green garden carpet.
The Gala is the biggest night in fashion, but the party actually funds the Metropolitan Museum of Art and its Costume Institute. The accompanying exhibit, which runs from May 10 to September 2, is titled “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion,” focusing on garments that are too delicate to be worn.
The party dress code, on the other hand, was “The Garden of Time,” inspired by a short story from 1962. If you expected a whole lotta floral motifs after reading this, you’re in luck because the carpet was definitely blooming on the first Monday in May.
Some stars, like Kylie Jenner, directly referenced the story with their looks, while others nodded to the exhibit, reaching for archival pieces or re-creating iconic gowns from the past. Still others went full floral given the whole “Garden”-centric dress code. We saw corsets! We saw sparkles! We saw lots of vibrant colors and, yes, tons and tons (and tons and tons) of flowers.
