‘The Office’ Gets New Peacock Spinoff Series Starring ‘White Lotus’ Star

Fans of The Office, rejoice! There’s a new mockumentary in town.

Over a decade after the beloved sitcom aired its final episode, Greg Daniels — who adapted the British version of the show — and Michael Koman have joined forces to bring a new hilarious story to viewers’ screens, and they’ve found their stars.

Domhnall Gleeson and Sabrina Impacciatore, the breakout star of season 2 of The White Lotus, are set to the lead the new Peacock series, which will begin production in July, the streamer announced on May 8.

The unnamed comedy will see the same documentary crew that “immortalized Dunder Mifflin’s Scranton branch,” making household names out of Michael Scott (Steve Carell), Jim Halpert (John Krasinksi) and Dwight Schrute (Rainn Wilson), among others, “in search of a new subject.”

The crew will discover “a dying historic Midwestern newspaper and the publisher trying to revive it with volunteer reporters,” and a new office dynamic will grace the screen.

“It’s been more than ten years since the final episode of The Office aired on NBC, and the acclaimed comedy series continues to gain popularity and build new generations of fans on Peacock,” Lisa Katz, the President of NBCUniversal Entertainment, said in a statement.

“In partnership with Universal Television and led by the creative team of Greg Daniels and Michael Koman, this new series set in the universe of Dunder Mifflin introduces a new cast of characters in a fresh setting ripe for comedic storytelling: a daily newspaper.”

In April, Jenna Fischer, who played Pam Beesly on all nine seasons of The Office, confirmed to PEOPLE that Daniels and Koman were “working on” a spinoff series, but she hadn’t “been approached about it.”

“I don’t know a lot of details, but I’m not involved,” Fischer said.

She and her castmates have previously expressed interest in revisiting the world of Dunder Mifflin, though, as has Daniels himself.

After the sitcom moved to Peacock in 2021, Daniels said a reboot was “more likely,” and though he had “no plans” at the time, the idea of replicating what Friends did with their HBO Max reunion was appealing, given how The Office ended.

“The weird thing about that is when we ended it, we jumped forward a year and a lot of them aren’t working there anymore,” he told E! News. “It would be fun to find some lost episodes and shoot them as if they were back in 2010 or something.”

A few months later, NBCU content chief Susan Rovner told Deadline at the Edinburgh International TV Festival that a reboot could happen “whenever Greg Daniels wants to do one,” indicating that the door was wide open for the writer and producer to return.

Rovner said they were “standing by” for a move from Daniels, 60.
