Joe Biden has blocked the release of audio recordings of his interviews with the special counsel who investigated his handling of classified documents.

In a letter to House Republican lawmakers James Comer and Jim Jordan on Thursday, the White House confirmed that Biden had decided to assert his executive privilege over the recordings.

Biden’s move stems from a bombshell report released in February by Robert Hur, the special counsel who oversaw the investigation into the president’s handling of classified materials found at his private residences and offices.

While the report said Biden would not face a criminal case over the classified documents, it said the president’s “memory was significantly limited” during interviews with Hur’s office in 2023, as well as with a ghostwriter working on his memoir in 2017.
